Our Story

Royal Hill is a new Croatian winery and one of the most ambitious wine-growing projects launched in Croatia. The Royal Hill Estate brand was created in 2020. We currently grow vine on 45 ha of first-grade positions in the municipality of Erdut, located in the Croatian Danube region, by the Danube river and the state border.

Vine has been grown in Erdut for more than 300 years.

Erdut wines were enjoyed even on European royal courts. It is our aim to continue the tradition of the production of these renowned wines, on new foundations, with the most sophisticated technology and globally acclaimed enological methods.

CHOICE WINES FROM THE ROYAL HILL

For the 2021 vintage, we hired Ivona Jeličić, one of the best-known Croatian enologists.

“When I was considering whether to accept a position in Erdut, what probably convinced me in the end was the Danube. Many globally renowned wine-growing regions were formed around big rivers, and the comparative advantage of the Erdut wine-growing area is its position on the banks of the Danube,” Jeličić commented for Plava kamenica.

Our dedication to attaining the highest level of quality is also evident in our choice of the winery’s employees and collaborators. For the 2022 wine-growing season, we hired Eric Moro from France, one of the leading Bordeaux viticulturists, to head the reorganization of wine-growing in accordance with the leading global principles.

Our assistant enologist is Matija Lesković, a young Croat with a PhD in enology obtained in the Republic of South Africa, who worked in some of the largest cellars in the world, such as those in the USA, Chile, Austria and South Africa.

Last year, in an effort to continue the three-hundred-year tradition and invigorate it with the most advanced wine-growing and enological procedures and methods, we published an extensive competition by invitation for several distinguished Croatian architects with experience in designing wineries and cellars. The winning design was that of the “2 arhitekta – Zidarić“ architectural studio. The building of a hyper-modern winery with a surface area of 4.700 m2 starts this year, and it is expected to open in 2023.

We believe that the winery will become an admirable tourist attraction in this part of Slavonia. With an annual production of approximately 250,000 bottles, Royal Hill will offer on the market a total of six labels of still wines and two labels of sparkling wines, produced using the traditional Charmat method.
